Reggae

Reggae has deep roots in East Africa. The Jamaican sound, with its offbeat guitar skank, heavy bass and message of unity, resistance and faith, found a strong following in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania, and local artists have been making their own reggae and dancehall for decades.

On Ziki, reggae covers roots reggae, lovers rock, dub, dancehall and the many Kenyan blends that mix reggae rhythms with Swahili lyrics, Benga guitar or Afrobeats production. Expect conscious songs about society and spirituality alongside love songs and party tracks. Reggae nights and sound-system culture remain a big part of Kenya's live scene.

This page brings together reggae and dancehall uploaded by independent artists on Ziki. Play the popular songs to start, then browse the latest uploads for new releases and riddims. Every track streams free, and many can be downloaded. Follow the artists and selectors you like so you never miss a drop. If you make reggae or dancehall, upload your music here so listeners browsing the genre can find it.
